10 Awesome Recent Movies You Probably Missed
The Apprentice might be the most underappreciated movie of 2024.

It's difficult to keep up with everything that's coming out these days. After all, films don't just come to the cinema anymore - they're firing out onto seemingly tens of different streaming services, and many independent or foreign films just don't get the marketing push that, say, the latest Marvel movie always gets.
That's just the nature of things - some movies won't find much of an audience. The following 10 movies are all examples of this - they're smashing works in their own different ways and yet, they remain underseen and, in certain cases, underrated by audiences.
The films vary. Several are foreign-language films that didn't get much of a showing in American and European cinemas, while others underperformed at the box office. There are even a couple of movies in here by acclaimed, beloved directors that still didn't quite connect with the moviegoing masses. It's a huge shame, but the good thing is that it's never too late to watch a great piece of cinema - even if you don't get to experience it under the ideal conditions of the big screen.
So, if you find yourself looking for something to watch, give these movies a spin. You'll be in for a great time!
10. Silent Night

Though silent films haven't been the mainstream norm for the best part of a century, they've never gone away. Just look at Flow, which won the Best Animated Feature Oscar. With absolutely no dialogue, that film is essentially a silent movie. That one was a global success, but there is another recent quasi-silent film which sadly didn't get the attention it deserved: John Woo's Silent Night.
Silent Night was the legendary action director's attempt to make an action film that's almost entirely devoid of spoken dialogue. The gimmick can be awkward - protagonist Brian (Joel Kinnaman) is mute after being shot in the throat, but it's not clear why no one else wants to speak. It's still a unique take on a revenge thriller, though, and one that really works.
Thanks to Kinnaman's fantastic, underrated performance in the lead role and Woo's superb command of film language, Silent Night does a fantastic job of conveying the story through imagery and performance, making this a satisfying and unique piece of pure cinema.
Furthermore, although this is a quieter work than most of Woo's films, it does still boast the fantastic action scenes you'd expect from this master of the action genre, and the final act is a blast. The indifferent critical response that this movie has received really is a shame. This movie has so much going for it, even if it's a long way from perfect.
